The World Atlas of Coffee is back

I have just received a little stack of The World Atlas of Coffee by James Hoffmann which will go on sale in the shop from Tuesday Nov. 10.
This book offers something unique that you won't find repeated over and over again in other coffee books and on the internet:
The coverage of each of the significant coffee producing countries is enlightening and not found elsewhere.
The book has something significant to offer both the casually interested and the hardcore enthusiast.
I only have a few copies for sale. Last batch sold quickly and I don't know if I can get more this year.
Price 269 DKK

On the Espresso Menu: from Oct. 13

There was a change in plans last week. Monte Brisas (Costa Rica) needed more degassing time, so Finca La Escondida (Nicaragua) stepped in. It will stay in the grinder for a few more days before Monte Brisas takes the stage - probably from Friday.
For as long as supplies last, Kaiguri AA (Kenya) will take the "special espresso" space from the EK43 grinder.

On the espresso menu (from Oct 6th)

Great end to a wonderful week!
Several thousands DKK from your generosity on ‪#‎internationalcoffeeday‬ will be donated to www.womenincoffee.org where your contributions will improve lives in the coffee producing countries.
Next week's espresso (from Oct 6):
Tuesday next week you will have the last chance to enjoy Finca Limoncillo (Nicaragua) - for now.
It will be followed by a one day appearance of the popular Finca Agentina (El Salvador) Wednesday - both roasted by Has Bean. The rest of the week will be Monte Brisas (Costa Rica) a Back Honey processed Villalobos roasted by La Cabra Roasters.
Ethiopian Konga (washed Heirloom) will fill the "special espresso" space throughout the week, also roasted by La Cabra.

On the shelves

Summer is the time to enjoy the bright and fruity African coffees.
Right now there are loads of African beans on the shelves: @lacabracoffee's Kenyan Washed SL28 "Kaiguri" (notes of red and black currants) and washed Ethiopian heirloom from the "Konga" wetmill (notes: floral, black tea and lemon). From @hasbean: washed "Kurume" from Gedeb in Ethiopia (notes of apricot and fruit sweetness) and a revisit from Malawi; the Taste of Harvest winner: "Msese" composed of Washed Nykia and Geisha, an amazing and somewhat surprising experience of floral notes and lemony citrus that turns into toffee sweetness with a huge mouthfeel.

Drift Volume 2 is in the shop. It takes a look at the coffee scene in Tokyo through photos and interviews. I don't have copies for sale, but you can take a break and read it in the shop with your favorite cup of coffee.

Featured Photobook - May 2015: Shinya Arimoto

Featured photo book during May is the fantastic "Portrait of Tibet", a masterpiece by Japanese photographer Shinya Arimoto.
Thanks to So Books for shipping abroad & great service- my favorite photo book shop in Japan - and to John Sypal (of Tokyo Camera Style fame) for originally making me aware of the existence of the Totem Pole Photo Gallery in Yotsuya/Shinjuku many years ago.

Coffee & Photo Books: Rinko Kawauchi - featured photo book; January 2015

This month the featured photo books are by Japanese photographer Rinko Kawauchi. While many of her photographs are very poetic, her true strength lies IMO in her ability to intelligently sequence her photographs. The books "Utatane" and "Illumiance" are excellent examples of this.
The exhibition catalogue "Illuminace, Ametsuchi, Seeing Shadow" gives an insight into her work process through contact prints and work notes.
